Weekend Eats......

I love my weekends and im looking forward to it every week, more over after a busy and tiring week. It is the time for you to chill out and spend some quality times with your loved ones, friends and families alike.

The notion of weekends and eating out  are inseparable as most people would frequent shopping malls and amusement park and spend their whole day therein whereby food outlets and restaurants are in abundance for a quick bite or an elaborate and leisurely one. Surely, restaurants would record the most customers visit during the weekends as well.

Let me share my weekend with you by featuring the foods that ive tasted during the said weekend....

Morning-Late Breakfast/Brunch
Venue: Oldtown Coffee House Berjaya Times Square Kuala Lumpur

It was a rather a late breakfast or brunch with my love Dan. Needless to note i always took the liberty to wake up late during the weekends.

Oldtown Coffee House is a famous chain of coffee shop in Malaysia specializing in (no surprise) coffee (especially the Ipoh White Coffee) and the trademark Kaya & Butter Toast.  "Kaya" refers to a local spread made of coconut milk, eggs and palm sugar.Nowadays there are variety of beverages (either hot or cold) and foods offered in this restaurant. The affordable prices of the foods and the cozy ambiance of the restaurant made it a favorite hot spot for most people.

without fail, i ordered my favourite drink here, Hazelnut White Coffee-Cold. I really love this drink as it complimented the Kaya & Butter Toast very well. In a sense it balance out the saltiness of the butter.
another favorite of mine is of course, the Kaya & Butter Toast. You can choose single slice or double slices. I ordered the latter to share with Dan. The toasts were crispy and i love to dunk it in my Hazelnut Coffee to soak and absorb the Hazelnut flavor. Once the taste infused, the toast would be more delectable to your palate.

Evening-Early Dinner
Venue: Cozy House Restaurant-Great Eastern Mall, Jalan Ampang Kuala Lumpur

after saying good byes to Dan, i headed straight to Great Eastern Mall for dinner with my best friend A & E. The place of choice was Cozy House Restaurant located at the 3rd floor of the shopping mall. We have frequented this eatery before as it serves local and western foods alike and there are many choices for the same. Our favorite dish in this restaurant will always be its Buttermilk Squid.

we ordered Sweet & Sour Chicken...
Kailan in Oyster Sauce With Salted Fish

and the winner...Buttermilk Squid

all were eaten with white steam rice. They were all mouth-wateringly delicious. The squid, though splattered over with buttermilk sauce still maintained its crispiness. The foods served here were all fresh.

Night-Supper
Venue: Oldtown Coffee House-Cheras, Kuala Lumpur

Yes, back in Oldtown for a supper with my friend Ib. I had a hearty lunch at Cozy House earlier thus i wanted to order something simple. And this caught my attention....

"Cendol" is a local Malaysian dessert consist of shaved ice, serve in a bowl with coconut milk, jelly and splash of palm sugar syrup. The Oldtown version has a twist whereby they have added in red beans as a condiment.

i am sorry to say that i was disappointed with their version of the Cendol. As apparent from the picture above, instead of having  a splash of brown sugar to compliment the coconut milk, they served it in the opposite whereby the shaved ice was covered in brown sugar syrup with a splash of coconut milk.

For me a good Cendol must have the coconut milk in larger ratio than the syrup, where this version failed to meet. Moreover, the Cendol must be watery and not thick so that the shaved ice would absorb all the miky and creaminess of the coconut milk. It was like eating shaved ice covered with brown sugar which will (esp for those with sensitive teeth like me) send you straight to your dentist.

the not so good Cendol wrapped up my lovely weekend with my friends and loved one.Regardless how it started or ended, i will always love my weekends and as per the norm, will always look forward for the same .....Kay2011.
